REVIEW: 4.5 out of 5 stars

A Million Suns is another of my most anticipated 2012 reads and picks up where Across the Universe left off.

Amy has been onboard Godspeed for three months now and she is no closer to belonging than what she was when she was first unfrozen by Elder. If fact, now the residents are off Phydus, there is growing panic amongst everyone and it’s Elder who has to calm and lead everyone now he is responsible for all onboard since the death of Eldest.

What a whirlwind ride we are taken on, there were so many unexpected twists and turns and plot developments that I never saw coming. Now that Elder has taken on the role of Eldest, people are starting to rebel and question what they have always believed – they have stopped working, are becoming depressed and suicidal and there is also a murderer onboard; poor Elder certainly had a huge task of gaining their trust but with their fear of the unknown and of change things weren’t going as smoothly as expected.

Clues were also being left around Godspeed by past leader Orion for Amy to find, it was a big mystery and the reveal was certainly not what I would have expected. I liked the turn of events and am eager to see how it all plays out.

I really enjoyed the development of the romance between Amy and Elder, they were so different but they both respected one another’s decisions (well, all bar one) and hopefully we see further progression in the next installment.

I don’t enjoy the secondary characters in this series, Doc I enjoyed in the first installment and I was starting to like Viktria but otherwise none of them have qualities I find appealing, it seemed anything that was different was freakish and noone was willing to adapt to change. I hope we see them embrace Amy and Elder in the next book, Shades of Earth.

There was action, mystery and certainly intrigue in A Million Suns, it is well paced and engaging and Beth Revis’s amazing writing allowed me to become captivated by the story.

I can’t recommend this series enough; there is romance, drama and ongoing conflict that keep you turning the pages.
