REVIEW: Pure (Covenant #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Covenant
Pages: 329
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Genre: Young Adult
Amazon: Pure

Synopsis. (Goodreads)

There is need. And then there is Fate...

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

Need.To.Get.Hold.Of.Deity – Now..

Wow!! Pure was my most anticipated read of this year and I am so pleased it lived up to all of my expectations – it was fantabulous!!

Pure was an exciting, drama-filled, action-packed sequel to Half-Blood where we follow Alexandria Andros’s journey as a half-blood to her awakening as the second Apollyon.

Alex is not only dealing with the events following her mother’s death, but also her impending council trial over her involvement in the Gatlinburg incident.

The council proceedings were certainly intriguing, I am so anxious to know who is behind the creation of the Daimon’s and also the person trying so eagerly to stop Alex’s awakening – I was guessing along the way but in the end I am still clueless as to who the baddie is, the mystery of it all certainly held my interest.

Alex as a main character is wonderful, she is impulsive, reckless, daring and kick-butt but there is also a vulnerability about her that makes her seem more real. I think she is one of my most favorite heroines. I really felt for what she was going through in this book, there were a lot of emotions evoked and what she had to deal with at times broke my heart a little for her.

Now the love interests, delectable Aiden St Delphi and Mr. Swoon and fellow Apollyon, Seth. I absolutely love both of these guys; both have their positive traits as well as their negative and I found it virtually impossible to pick one over the other. I wasn’t a huge Seth fan in Half-blood but his sarcasm, arrogance, mannerisms and humour were hilarious in Pure and he really grew on me as a character, I also adored the way he protected and cared for Alex. The sacrifice Aiden made was unbelievable; I am so keen to see how it all progresses in the next installment.

We are introduced to a few new characters and although I had now idea of their true intentions each were developed well, I especially liked Laadan.

I am always mesmerized by Ms Armentrout’s storytelling; the mythology is wonderful and perfectly detailed; her writing is superb, you are literally drawn into the amazing world she has created.

The pacing flows beautifully, the plot is solid, entertaining and enjoyable and I really liked the unexpected twists and turns, the drama and even the love triangle romance was written in a way which didn’t have me squirming – I loved it all.

Pure is a captivating read and an amazing sequel that I would highly recommend to any fan of the YA genre.

Book 3 in the Covenant series, Deity has an anticipated November 2012 release date.
